Just a Little Background

ABOUT

I was born in Ohio and moved to California more than 30 years ago.  My father taught me to sing and play guitar at a young age.  Growing up an hour north of Kentucky I guess it was no surprise that my first introduction to music was bluegrass and country.  I learned the art of three part harmony from playing music with my Dad and my Uncle.  I stopped playing the guitar when I was about 12 and didn't pick it back up again until I was 20.  In the late 1980's and early 1990's I played in classic rock bands.  We played everything from the Allman Bros to Zeppelin.  The most notable of the bands was named Blind Luck (not to be confused with the other bands that had the same name).  Three of the founding members of the band were from New York City and they loved to make fun of my Hillbilly Honkytonk accent, and they began calling me Ole' Honk Smith.  Our band recorded one album "Roll the Dice" and broke up in the early 2000's.  My California brothers and I played locally off and on for about 10 years in a band called the 3 Bros Band.  I played a few solo gigs during the past 5 years, but the onset of the pandemic made me begin playing and singing again.  Now that venues are reopening it is time to pick up my guitar and get in front of an audience!
